Halfpipe

A halfpipe is a large miniramp without vert. Once the ramps has vert we normally call it a vert ramp. At the top of each side of the halpipe we have the so called copings and decks, facing each other across a flat transition.

Vert was born out the riding of backyard swimming pools and is a structure used in gravity sports such as skateboarding, freestyle BMX or scooter skating. Vert skating is the riding of ramps, bowls or other structures where the rider has to transition from the horizontal plane to the vertical plane to execute tricks. Since the 1980s vert ramps started being built with an extended flat bottom section between the sides, which provides time to regain balance after landing a trick and more time to prepare for the next.

If you are skating a halfpipe, wear a helmet.
