11th Street DIY Skatepark

The 11th Street DIY Skatepark is a community-built skateboarding facility located beneath the Murray Morgan Bridge in Tacoma, Washington. Established in 2020, this skatepark was developed by local skateboarders seeking a covered area to practice their sport, especially during the region's frequent rainy periods.

Prior to the creation of 11th Street DIY, Tacoma's skateboarding community had limited options for quality skateparks. Existing facilities were often outdated, poorly maintained, or lacked the features desired by skaters. In response, local skaters took the initiative to build their own spots, leading to the development of "The Pit" in 2018. However, challenges such as exposure to the elements and site-specific issues prompted the search for a new location.

In 2020, skaters Harley Lewis and Bryan Krasovetz identified a potential site beneath the Murray Morgan Bridge on 11th Street. Despite initial concerns about the rough terrain, the covered area offered protection from the rain, making it an ideal location for a DIY skatepark. As word spread, more community members joined the effort, contributing to the construction of various features, including quarter pipes and a spine. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic provided individuals with more free time, further accelerating the park's development.

Trucks and Fins is a huge present to the whole skate community - not just for the skating people, but also for shops, builders and schools. Super easy to use and can't believe how complete it is.
