Aberdare Skatepark, located next to the Michael Sobell Sports Centre in Aberdare, Wales, was designed and built by Maverick Industries. It was completed in 2013 as a concrete facility, reflecting Maverick’s signature style of designing durable, low-maintenance parks. The skatepark includes a large bowl, street elements, and a BMX-inspired line, making it versatile for both skateboarders and BMX riders. The design features a combination of ledges, stairs, and hips, catering to a wide range of skill levels.
This new park replaced the original facility, which had become outdated and less functional for the community. The revamp was driven by the Aberdare User Group, who worked closely with Maverick and the Cynon Valley Council to ensure the park reflected the needs and preferences of local users. The redevelopment secured the future of wheeled sports in the area and has since become a hub for local youth.
The project was fully funded by the council, and its success is credited to strong collaboration between the community and the design team. The concrete structure ensures longevity, and the variety of features make it suitable for both beginner and advanced riders, with plans to maintain the park for decades to come.
