ABOUT SKATEPARK

Corte Madera skatepark

The Scotty Lapp Memorial Skatepark is a community-driven project established to honor the memory of Scott Howard Lapp, a passionate skier and skateboarder from Tahoe City, California, who tragically passed away in a ski accident in February 2022. In the spring of 2022, Scotty had intended to start a petition to build a skatepark in his community, as there was no dedicated space for local skaters to practice their sport. Following his passing, his family and friends founded the Scotty Lapp Foundation to realize his dream and provide a safe, legal, and inclusive space for individuals of all ages to gather and engage in skateboarding.

In the summer of 2022, the foundation established a temporary 4,000-square-foot pop-up skatepark behind the old Blue Agave building in Tahoe City. This interim park operated daily from 10 a.m. until sunset, offering features such as a mini pipe, hip, flatbank, quarter pipes, and various stairs and ramps. The pop-up park served as a testament to the community's commitment to Scotty's vision and provided a gathering place for skate enthusiasts until its closure to make way for permanent developments.

The foundation's primary goal is to construct a permanent skatepark in North Lake Tahoe. After extensive collaboration with local authorities, the Tahoe City Public Utility District Board of Directors identified the existing dog park on Grove Street in Tahoe City as the proposed location for the new skatepark. This site, approximately 10,000 square feet, is centrally located and offers proximity to other recreational facilities, making it an ideal spot for the community's needs.

As of February 2025, discussions and planning are ongoing, with considerations for environmental impact, community feedback, and design specifics being addressed. In addition to the Tahoe City project, the Scotty Lapp Foundation has expanded its efforts to Corte Madera, California. Collaborating with local officials and organizations, the foundation is working to revamp the existing skatepark at Corte Madera Town Park. The redesigned park aims to cater to skaters of all ages and skill levels, fostering an inclusive environment that reflects Scotty's spirit of bringing people together.
