Crystal Palace Skatepark in London was completed in 2018 and designed by Canvas Spaces, in collaboration with Kinnear Landscape Architects. This skatepark represents a significant return of skateboarding to Crystal Palace Park, a site with a rich history in UK skateboarding, dating back to the 1977 national competition and the famous half-pipe of the 1980s.
The skatepark spans 1,100 square meters and features a diverse range of elements, including a 100-meter-long curved concrete structure. Key features include an 8.5-foot-deep cloverleaf pool with tile and coping, which is the first of its kind built in London in 40 years. There is also an L-shaped bowl with steel coping and a more mellow section suitable for skaters of all skill levels. It was designed with BMX, rollerblading, and scootering in mind as well.
Funding for the project came from the Greater London Authority, which provided £400,000 as part of an initiative to improve public spaces and promote skate culture in the city. The skatepark remains free and open to the public during daylight hours.
