The Dan Dever Memorial Skatepark, located in Othello, Washington, opened in July 2016 and is a 6,000-square-foot facility that was designed and built by SpohnRanch, a well-known skatepark construction company. The park was named after Dan Dever, a local city councilman who passionately advocated for its construction before his passing in 2014. His vision was to create a space where the town's youth could engage in skateboarding and stay out of trouble. The skatepark features a 7.5-foot-deep bowl, a double stair set, a bank ramp, and grind rails, providing a blend of street and transition elements that appeal to both novice and advanced skaters.
The funding for the park was primarily community-driven, with the town of Othello supporting the project and local youth actively participating in the design process. The involvement of the community in both funding and design made the park a true reflection of local needs and desires. In addition to the skate elements, the park's construction included a donor-funded brick patio to further commemorate Dever's legacy.
Since its opening, the skatepark has become a popular spot for skaters, attracting locals and visitors alike. The park stands as a testament to the positive impact that community collaboration and grassroots advocacy can have on public spaces.
