Daybreak Sculpture Garden Skatepark, located in South Jordan, Utah, is a unique fusion of art and skateboarding. Built in 2008, it was designed and constructed by SpohnRanch, in collaboration with landscape architects G. Brown. This project was groundbreaking as it redefined traditional skatepark concepts by creating the first "skateable sculpture garden" in the United States. The design aimed to blend public art and skateboarding into a mixed-use space that both skaters and non-skaters could enjoy.
The skatepark spans over 20,000 square feet, featuring over a dozen integrated art pieces that double as skateable obstacles. One of the most iconic structures in the park is the “Ribbon,” inspired by Park City’s 2002 Olympic ribbon sculpture. The park’s design includes flowing pedestrian paths with artistic sculptures seamlessly embedded into the skatepark’s terrain, making it accessible for both beginner and advanced skaters.
Funding for the project was part of the broader development of the Daybreak community, a planned housing area that emphasized outdoor spaces and public art. The skatepark not only serves as a space for recreation but also as a visual experience, incorporating aesthetic elements into practical skateboarding features.
Daybreak Sculpture Garden Skatepark remains a cherished part of the local community, providing a family-friendly environment where art and skateboarding coexist. Despite its innovative design, there have been no major renovations since its opening.
