Dovercourt Skatepark, located on Lower Marine Parade, was officially completed in December 2017 and launched in April 2018. This state-of-the-art facility was built by Maverick Industries, a leading UK company specializing in skateparks, after a seven-year struggle for funding to replace the outdated and unsafe metal ramp skatepark, which had been built in 2002. The old park had become particularly dangerous in wet conditions due to its slippery metal ramps.
The total cost of the new concrete skatepark was £220,000. Funding came from multiple sources, including £100,000 from Harwich Town Council and contributions from Sport England, Essex County Council, Tendring District Council’s Big Society Fund, and Tesco Bags of Help. Additional financial support came from developer contributions and the Police and Fire Crime Commissioner.
The skatepark is designed to cater to a variety of users, including skateboarders, BMX riders, inline skaters, and scooter riders. Its main features include an open bowl, street section, and various other ramps and obstacles, all constructed using spray concrete, making the facility durable and suitable for year-round use.
This new facility has transformed Dovercourt's seafront, providing a much-needed upgrade and a modern recreational space for young people in the area. The skatepark is now a key attraction, drawing visitors not only from Dovercourt but from nearby areas as well.
