Eagle Pass Skatepark, located in Eagle Pass, Texas, is an 8,500 square-foot facility built under the US Highway 277 overpass. The skatepark was designed and constructed by SpohnRanch, a renowned skatepark builder. Construction began in December 2017 and was completed in March 2018, transforming a previously underutilized space into a vital recreational hub for the local skateboarding community.
The skatepark features a mix of transition and street elements, including a 5-7 foot bowl with Tedder Stone pool coping, smaller quarter-pipes, and street-style features such as rails, stairs, and hubba ledges. The park's design was heavily influenced by input from local skateboarders, ensuring that it catered to their preferences and needs. The decision to build the park under a highway was strategic, providing shade during hot summer days and offering some protection from rain.
This project was part of a larger city initiative to enhance public spaces, with funding and support from the City of Eagle Pass. The site offers additional amenities such as parking, picnic tables, and walking trails, making it accessible and inviting to both skaters and other community members. The skatepark’s thoughtful design and location have made it a significant improvement for the city, fostering a vibrant skateboarding scene in this Texas border town.
