Etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest, located in Lake Forest, California, opened in December 2003 and was the result of a groundbreaking public-private partnership between the city of Lake Forest and Etnies, a renowned skateboarding brand. This collaboration made it the first skatepark in the U.S. to be developed in such a manner. Designed by SITE Design Group and built by California Skateparks, the park spans 62,000 square feet, making it the largest free skatepark in California and one of the largest in the country.
The park features an array of elements, including multiple bowls, street courses, vert walls, and a flow course, catering to skaters of all skill levels. Its design reflects input from local skateboarders, ensuring it met community needs while offering state-of-the-art skating facilities. The park quickly became a major draw for skateboarders, with over 1,200 skaters using the facility each week.
In 2011, Etnies Skatepark underwent a $1 million, 16,000-square-foot expansion, further solidifying its reputation as a premier skatepark. The expansion added several new features, such as a mini-bowl, an A-frame bump with rails, and a backyard-style pool with unique elements like Tedder Stone coping. These upgrades increased the park’s size and functionality, making it a global destination for skateboarding.
The park continues to host various events, camps, and competitions, including partnerships with figures like Ryan Sheckler and community initiatives such as environmental cleanups. It remains a key example of how skateparks can positively impact local communities.
