The Falmouth Skatepark, situated at 350 Gifford Street in East Falmouth, Massachusetts, is a modern facility dedicated to skateboarding, in-line skating, BMX biking, and scootering. The park's development reflects a long-standing community effort to provide a safe and state-of-the-art environment for these activities.
The original skatepark was established in 1996 through a collaboration involving the Falmouth Recreation Department, local authorities, and community organizations. Recognizing the need for a larger space, the town allocated funds in 1998, leading to the opening of a permanent facility in 1999.
Around 2008, Dr. Keith Bleiler, president of the Skatepark Association, secured unanimous support from local bodies to fundraise for an upgraded facility. Contributions from various foundations and individuals facilitated the design phase by Stantec Consulting, Inc.
In 2013, the Community Preservation Committee granted $185,000 for the new skatepark. However, rising construction costs delayed progress until April 2017, when an additional $300,000 was approved at the Town Meeting to fully fund the project. The project was awarded to Adira Construction, Inc., which partnered with specialty contractor Artisan Skateparks, known for their expertise in building high-quality skateparks.
Completed in 2020, the Falmouth Skatepark operates under the jurisdiction of the Town of Falmouth and the Falmouth Recreation Department. It is open to the public daily from dawn to dusk, offering a versatile space that caters to various wheeled sports enthusiasts.
