The Fremantle Skatepark, also known as the Esplanade Youth Plaza, is located in Fremantle's Esplanade Park and is recognized as one of the top skate facilities in Australia. It was designed and built by Convic, a company known for creating world-class skateparks. The park officially opened in April 2014 after a year of planning and construction. The project cost approximately $1.8 million and was funded by the City of Fremantle with additional support from state grants.
The plaza includes more than just skate features; it boasts Australia’s first outdoor parkour area, a contemporary skate plaza, a skate bowl, outdoor ping pong tables, and a bike skill-share center. The design incorporates recycled materials and repurposed elements such as shipping containers, paying tribute to Fremantle's maritime heritage. It is designed to be a multi-use community space that promotes activity for all ages.
The plaza’s opening was a major event for the local skateboarding community, with large crowds, competitions, and demonstrations. Since then, it has continued to be a bustling community hub.
