Makins Recreation Ground, Greys Roads, Henley-on-Thames RG9 1TE, United Kingdom.
Henley Skatepark, located at Makins Recreation Ground in Henley-on-Thames, was designed and built by Maverick Industries, one of the UK’s leading skatepark design firms. This concrete skatepark was completed in August 2017, replacing an older facility that had metal-framed ramps on a tarmac base, which had become outdated and unsafe. The new skatepark features a mix of transition and street elements, including ramps, ledges, and bowls, catering to both skateboarders and BMX riders of all skill levels.
The total cost of the project was approximately £250,000, with significant funding coming from Henley Town Council (£75,000), as well as contributions from the Henley Skate Park Initiative and local fundraising efforts. The initiative also sought grants from external sources, including Sport England and South Oxfordshire District Council, to cover the costs. The new design is not only more durable but also incorporates sunken concrete obstacles to reduce noise and ensure a more pleasant experience for park users and the surrounding community.
The project was the result of years of hard work and collaboration between Maverick Industries, Henley Town Council, and local skaters. The design process involved consultations with users to ensure that the park would meet their needs and become a destination for action sports enthusiasts in the region. The redevelopment has been praised for its quality construction, with Maverick ensuring that all aspects, from drainage to concrete work, were completed to the highest standards to ensure the park's longevity.
