ABOUT SKATEPARK

Holborn Park skatepark

Holborn Park Skate Plaza, located in Berkeley, Wollongong, was designed and constructed by Convic, a well-known firm specializing in skateparks. The skate plaza, completed around 2015, sits by the banks of Lake Illawarra and incorporates elements reflecting the area's industrial heritage, including references to the Port Kembla copper stack that once dominated the local skyline.

The skate plaza features an open flow design with street-style elements such as rails, ledges, and steps, catering to skaters of all skill levels. Although the original design included a bowl, geotechnical issues with the soil meant it was replaced with a different layout. The plaza also includes a basketball half-court and amenities like seating, public art displays, and shelter.

The project was part of the Wollongong City Council's 2022 Plan to improve recreational facilities in the southern suburbs, with a total budget of $850,000, funded by the council.
