Houma Skatepark, also known as Fireman’s Skate and Bike Park, is a 15,000-square-foot concrete skatepark located in Houma, Louisiana. It was completed in 2015 and built by SpohnRanch, a well-known company specializing in skatepark design and construction. The park features a combination of street and transition elements, including an open bowl, quarterpipes, handrails, stairs, hubbas, ledges, and a mini snake run. It caters to skaters, BMX riders, and scooter users of all skill levels.
The skatepark's construction was largely a community-driven effort. One of its most significant contributors was Jerry Gautreaux, a local firefighter who supported the idea of a skatepark after frequently allowing local skaters to use the fire station's parking lot. Gautreaux’s $10,000 donation after his passing helped jumpstart the project, which eventually saw additional funding from local parish government and private donations.
In addition to its well-thought-out layout, the park includes amenities like a restroom building and covered seating for spectators, designed by Duplantis Design Group. The Houma Skatepark has become a vital recreational hub, providing a safe and well-maintained environment for skaters and BMX riders.
Since its opening, the park has been praised for its design, which separates beginner areas from more advanced sections, allowing users of varying abilities to enjoy the facility comfortably. Although the park does not have lighting, it operates from sunrise to sunset and has become a popular destination in the community.
