49 E 16th Street, National City, California 91950, United States of America.
Kimball Skatepark, located in National City, California, was built in 2016 as part of a revitalization project aimed at replacing the city's aging metal ramp skatepark. The park, designed by SITE Design Group, Inc. and constructed by SpohnRanch Skateparks, covers approximately 10,000 square feet of concrete terrain. Its design is a creative response to the unique site constraints, being located between a baseball field and a drainage canal, which gave the park its distinctive, stretched-out shape.
The skatepark features a mix of street-style obstacles, including stairs, handrails, ledges, and flat rails. There are also quarter pipes, banks, and a pyramid, providing a variety of challenges for skaters of all levels. One of the park's standout features is its use of space, with two street plazas at either end, connected by a tiered design that maximizes the relatively tight footprint.
Funding for the park came from the city as part of a broader effort to enhance recreational spaces in National City. The new skatepark replaced a much older setup that had reached the end of its lifespan, and the upgrade to modern concrete structures has made a significant impact on the local skating community.
