ABOUT SKATEPARK

Maple Ridge skatepark

The Thomas Haney Youth Park, located at 23000 116 Avenue in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, is a 20,000-square-foot multi-generational facility that serves as a cornerstone of the community’s recreation corridor. This project was designed and built by New Line Skateparks in 2014, replacing a legacy facility with a modern concrete landscape. Situated directly adjacent to Thomas Haney Secondary School and the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre, the park was designed to be a high-visibility, high-energy space that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding student and civic life.

The design is a sophisticated "mega-plaza" that emphasizes long-distance flow and architectural variety. It features a massive street section that utilizes the site’s natural grade to create multiple tiers of technical obstacles. These include long, granite-capped hubba ledges, diverse stair configurations, flat rails, and unique "slappy" curbs. A standout feature of the park is the large "flow-bowl" section, which offers a variety of depths and hips that allow transition riders to generate the speed needed to blast through the lower plaza. The layout is engineered to handle large numbers of users simultaneously, with wide "runways" and clearly defined lines that prevent collisions.

Constructed with high-strength, smooth-troweled concrete, the facility was built to survive the heavy rainfall and high usage cycles typical of the Lower Mainland. The design incorporates beautiful aesthetic elements, including custom metalwork and integrated "green islands" that soften the concrete landscape and provide natural shade. The park is equipped with professional-grade lighting for evening sessions, which is a major draw for the local community during the winter months when daylight is limited.

Because of its location on the Thomas Haney campus, the park functions as more than just a skatepark; it is a central social hub that features integrated concrete seating for spectators and wide peripheral walkways. The design encourages "all-wheel" use, making it a favorite for skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter enthusiasts from across the Fraser Valley. Today, the Thomas Haney Youth Park is recognized as one of the most successful and well-utilized facilities in the region, praised for its technical scale and its role in creating a positive, active environment for Maple Ridge youth.
