McClatchy Skatepark, located in Sacramento, California, was designed and built by SpohnRanch Skateparks and opened in 2014. The skatepark is part of the larger McClatchy Park, which underwent significant renovations funded by a state park grant. These improvements included not only the skatepark but also a playground and a jogging trail, all aimed at revitalizing the Oak Park area.
The skatepark spans 7,000 square feet and is designed with a street-style layout, featuring elements such as quarter pipes, bank ramps, camel humps, hubba ledges, handrails, stairs, flat bars, and a mini ramp with a hip. It offers a dynamic environment for skaters of all skill levels, making it a popular spot for the local community. Additionally, the park includes a large bowl section ranging from 6 to 8 feet deep, catering to more advanced skaters.
McClatchy Skatepark is free to the public and has become a central part of Sacramento's thriving skateboarding scene. It also plays a role in the ongoing revitalization of McClatchy Park, which was historically home to Joyland, an amusement park in the early 1900s.
The skatepark's development was part of a $3 million renovation project funded by a combination of state grants and local efforts to improve public spaces.
