Southdown road, Millbrook, Torpoint PL10 1EH, United Kingdom.
Millbrook Skatepark, located in Cornwall, underwent a major redevelopment in 2024 after years of planning and fundraising efforts by the local community. The original skatepark, which had been in use for over two decades, had fallen into disrepair with rusting metal ramps and cracked surfaces. Recognizing the need for a safer, more modern facility, the Millbrook Skatepark Project was launched, in collaboration with the Millbrook Parish Council.
The design and construction of the new concrete skatepark were carried out by Maverick Industries, a renowned company specializing in skateparks. Maverick managed to create a design that suits all skill levels, from beginners to more experienced riders. The new park includes a range of features like flow sections, technical areas, and unique elements like a wave structure that is a standout feature in the park.
The total cost of the project exceeded £280,000, with significant contributions from various grants and fundraising efforts. Key funding sources included £20,000 from the Ginsters Pasties and Cornwall Bakery's Sports Opportunity Fund, alongside additional contributions from organizations like Sport England, British Cycling, Devon and Cornwall Police, and the Millbrook Parish Council. The community also played an essential role, raising over £60,000 through crowdfunding efforts and local fundraising activities.
The newly opened skatepark, which was completed in March 2024, has quickly become a popular hub for young people in the area, offering a safe and engaging space for skating, BMX, and scootering. The park is free to use and open to all, fostering social inclusion and promoting active lifestyles in Millbrook.
