The North Laurel Skatepark in Laurel, Maryland, was completed in 2011 as part of a larger revitalization project for the North Laurel Community Center. The skatepark spans 12,000 square feet and was designed and built by SpohnRanch in collaboration with local landscape architects, Mahan Rykiel. The design process involved public workshops and social media interactions to incorporate feedback from the local skateboarding community.
This skatepark was constructed to accommodate skaters of all levels, featuring a 4-6 foot bowl, various ledge combinations, and three large skateable boulders. These features make it versatile for both street and transition skaters. The park's aesthetic also reflects its broader role as a neighborhood centerpiece, offering a sculptural quality that appeals to non-skaters as well.
The North Laurel Skatepark is located at 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road and is part of a 45-acre multi-use recreation center. It is open from dawn to dusk, but there are no lights for night skating. This skatepark has become a popular destination in the greater D.C. area and is frequently praised for its design and functionality.
