Ponderosa Skatepark, located in Anaheim, California, is a 10,000-square-foot outdoor concrete skatepark that opened in 2013. The skatepark was designed and built by SpohnRanch in 2013 and an extension by Grindline skateparks in 2016, a renowned skatepark design company known for its high-quality skateparks across the country. The project reportedly cost around $640,000 and was part of a larger effort to enhance the recreational facilities in the area.
The skatepark is divided into two primary sections: a street plaza and a large bowl. The street plaza incorporates a variety of features typically found in street-style parks, such as stairs, rails, ledges, manual pads, and flat rails. Transition features, including quarter pipes with hips and volcano-style elements, provide a well-rounded skating experience for both street and transition skaters. The bowl is shaped like a "dog bone," offering different depths (5 feet in the shallow end and 8 feet in the deep end) and includes pool coping and a love seat in one of its shallow pockets.
The skatepark is part of the larger Ponderosa Park, a 9-acre community park that also features picnic areas, playgrounds, and sports fields, making it a popular destination for families as well as skaters. The park is free to use and open to skaters of all ages and skill levels, although helmets and other protective gear are recommended. While the park does not have lights for night use, its dawn-to-dusk access ensures ample time for skating during the day.
Ponderosa Skatepark is a valuable addition to Anaheim's growing skatepark scene, offering a well-designed, challenging environment for skaters in Southern California.
