The Rhyl Skatepark, located in Denbighshire, North Wales, is one of the region's major skate facilities, built by Maverick Industries. Completed in 2007, the park was built with a budget of £160,000, provided by the Welsh Assembly Government as part of a broader initiative to enhance recreational infrastructure in the area. The skatepark is situated beneath the town’s Sky Tower on Rhyl's seafront, an iconic location that makes it a focal point for local youth and visitors alike.
The park’s design, which includes input from local skateboarders and the community, was created to accommodate various roller sports, such as skateboarding, BMX, and rollerblading. It features ramps, rails, funboxes, and quarter pipes, providing an exciting and versatile environment for different skill levels. Its combination of street and transition elements allows users to practice and perfect a range of tricks.
Before the current facility was built, Rhyl's skatepark options were limited, with no dedicated, purpose-built concrete facility available. The old skatepark had become outdated, prompting local residents and youth groups to campaign for a more modern, durable structure. The community’s involvement in the planning and consultation phases ensured that the final design met the needs of users.
In recent years, there has been ongoing discussion about the park’s future due to broader plans for redeveloping Rhyl’s coastal areas. However, it remains a key part of the town’s recreational offerings, providing a free and accessible space for skate enthusiasts.
