Riverdale Skatepark, located in Riverdale, Georgia, opened in 2017 as part of the city's efforts to provide quality recreational facilities for local youth. Spanning 7,000 square feet, the skatepark was designed and built by SpohnRanch, a leading firm in skatepark design. The park features a variety of obstacles, including a large bowl with depths ranging from 4 to 6 feet, hubbas, rails, quarterpipes, and a London gap. These elements create an environment suitable for both beginners and advanced skaters, offering a mix of street and transition-style skating.
The creation of the skatepark was a long-term dream of Riverdale's former Mayor Evelyn Wynn-Dixon, who had been advocating for it since 2008. After years of gathering community support and securing funding, the park became a reality. It was incorporated into the larger Riverdale Regional Park, which also includes sports fields, playgrounds, and walking trails, making it a central hub for the community.
The skatepark is free to use and is open daily from dawn to dusk. Although it lacks dedicated lighting for night use, it remains a popular spot for skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter enthusiasts alike. The park's accessible location, just a 30-minute drive from downtown Atlanta, contributes to its popularity as a destination for local and visiting skaters.
