ABOUT SKATEPARK

Rom skatepark

The Rom Skatepark, located in Hornchurch, East London, is a historic and iconic skateboarding venue. Established in August 1978, it was designed by Adrian Rolt of G-Force and spans an area of 8,000 square meters. The park's design drew inspiration from Californian skateparks of the era, featuring a variety of concrete bowls and ramps that have attracted skateboarders and BMX riders for decades. In recognition of its cultural and architectural significance, The Rom was granted Grade II listed status in September 2014, making it the first skatepark in Europe and only the second worldwide to receive such designation.

Despite its rich history, The Rom faced challenges in recent years. A fire in 2018 led to increased operational costs, and the skatepark announced its closure in September 2019. However, efforts by a dedicated not-for-profit group have aimed to ensure its continued survival, with the park reopening on weekends.
