Rydell Skatepark, located in Kannowski Park, Grand Forks, North Dakota, is a prominent 12,000-square-foot skatepark that was completed in 2020. The park was designed and built by SpohnRanch, a well-known skatepark design and construction company. The skatepark features a diverse mix of street and transition elements, including quarter pipes, a spine, radial bowl, banks, ledges, and a distinctive waterfall element, making it a versatile destination for skaters of all skill levels.
The development of Rydell Skatepark was a community-driven project that saw significant local involvement and support. It was part of a larger effort to revitalize Grand Forks’ skateboarding facilities, with Phase 1 of the project completed in 2018. This initial phase was funded through local donations and support from the Grand Forks Parks & Rec Foundation. Phase 2 was completed in 2020, adding more advanced features to the park and further enhancing its appeal.
Rydell Skatepark provides a free, safe space for skateboarders, BMX riders, and inline skaters. The park's design emphasizes flow and accessibility, with obstacles arranged to allow skaters to seamlessly transition between features. It has become a central hub for the local skateboarding community, attracting skaters from across the region. The park’s inclusive atmosphere, combined with its professional-grade features, reflects Grand Forks' commitment to fostering a welcoming and engaging space for action sports.
This skatepark not only serves as a recreational venue but also as a testament to the power of community involvement in building quality public spaces. The support from local organizations and residents played a crucial role in its completion and ongoing success.
