ABOUT SKATEPARK

Templo Mayor Skatepark

The Templo Mayor Skatepark in Mexico City is a collaboration between Nike SB and the Mexico City government, designed by California Skateparks. It opened in 2014 and holds the distinction of being the first Street League Skateboarding (SLS)-certified skatepark outside of the United States. The design was influenced by Mexico’s rich Aztec history, and the park's name refers to the Templo Mayor, one of the main temples in the ancient Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan.

The skatepark spans 15,000 square feet and features intricate Aztec-inspired elements, including graphics and handrails that mimic the stylized depictions of snakes, central to Aztec culture. A striking feature of the park is a mosaic sculpture by local artist Luis Ponce, which highlights themes related to Aztec warriors and the eternal cycle of life, representing a metaphor for the continuous challenges skaters face.

This skatepark was part of Nike SB's effort to elevate the skateboarding scene in Mexico. It includes a mix of features suitable for skaters of all levels, from beginner-friendly areas to more challenging sections designed for professionals. The vibrant color patterns, sculptural elements, and professional-level design make it a unique and visually stunning skatepark, attracting local and international skaters alike.
