Stelplaats Skatepark in Leuven is part of a broader youth initiative developed within the repurposed bus depot, "Stelplaats," which now serves as a cultural and recreational space for young people. The skatepark is operated by Vzweetje, a local organization that supports the Leuven skateboarding community. This indoor skatepark covers over 260 square meters of smooth concrete and includes a variety of obstacles for skaters of all levels, from beginners to advanced riders.
The facility was first built in 2018 as part of the Stelplaats initiative, which revitalized the old bus depot into a vibrant hub for youth activities. In addition to the skatepark, the space includes other youth-centered facilities such as a kitchen, print studio, and rehearsal rooms. Vzweetje also organizes regular skateboarding lessons, competitions, and workshops, making it a vital part of the skate culture in Leuven.
The project was funded and supported through local community efforts, with backing from both public and private sources. The goal was to create an inclusive and dynamic space that caters to a wide range of interests, including skateboarding. No major renovations have been reported since its initial development, but the park continues to host various events that contribute to its lively atmosphere.
Stelplaats is an ongoing example of how urban spaces can be creatively reused to foster youth engagement and community building, with the skatepark being one of its key attractions.
