Taylor Skatepark, located in Mannheim, Germany, was completed in 2019 as part of a broader urban redevelopment project on the site of former American army barracks. The project, including the skatepark, was designed by Man Made Land in collaboration with Lysann Schmidt, a landscape architect and was built by X-Move. The park itself covers around 100,000 square meters of land, and the first phase of construction had a budget of €4 million, excluding VAT.
The skatepark features a street-plaza layout with a variety of obstacles, such as a volcano, spine, hubbas, and quarterpipes, making it suitable for different styles of skating. The park includes manual pads, ledges, stairs, handrails, and a miniramp, catering to both advanced and beginner skaters. Its design emphasizes blending seamlessly with the surrounding park, offering skaters a dynamic urban environment.
Funding for the skatepark was part of a larger redevelopment initiative led by MWS Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft, aimed at transforming the old military site into a public recreational space that connects green areas around Mannheim. The project prioritized ecological values, integrating biotopes and protected trees within the park's layout. Community input played a significant role in the planning, ensuring the park met local needs for recreation, sports, and leisure.
