Wincanton Skatepark, originally built in 2004, underwent a significant redevelopment in 2020 to replace its aging steel ramps with a modern concrete design. The initial skatepark was funded by South Somerset District Council and the Foundation for Sport and the Arts, costing £43,600. However, after 15 years of heavy use, the park was in need of substantial repairs, leading to plans for a new facility.
The redevelopment, completed by Maverick Industries in mid-2020, transformed the park into a state-of-the-art concrete facility, featuring improved designs and a variety of obstacles for skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter users. The new park was part of a broader enhancement of Wincanton’s Cale Park area. The project cost £160,000, with substantial funding from external sources, including £50,000 from the Viridor Environmental Credits Scheme, £20,000 from Sport England, and contributions from local councils and community groups.
The redevelopment aimed to provide a safer, more durable space for local youth, with the new design offering enhanced flow and versatility. The revamped skatepark is now a key part of Wincanton's community infrastructure, hosting regular events and serving as a popular spot for skaters of all ages.
