1706 9th Avenue N, Birmingham, Alabama 35203, United States of America
The City Walk BHAM Skatepark is a centerpiece of Birmingham’s urban landscape, transforming the space beneath the I-59/20 highway bridges into a massive, 56,000-square-foot action sports destination. This world-class facility was designed and built by New Line Skateparks in partnership with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC). By utilizing the sheltered area under the highway, the project team created a weather-protected environment that allows for year-round riding, effectively turning a formerly underutilized industrial corridor into a vibrant, high-energy community hub.
The park’s expansive layout is carefully zoned to support progression and variety, featuring a professional-grade bowl complex with varying depths and a sprawling street plaza that mirrors modern urban architecture with precision-engineered rails, ledges, and stairs. A dedicated beginner zone provides a low-impact space for newcomers to find their footing, while a rhythmic concrete pump track offers a unique challenge for BMX, scooter, and skateboard users alike. As a primary venue for the 2022 World Games, the facility was built to the highest competitive standards while maintaining a focus on inclusivity and public access. Today, City Walk Skatepark stands as one of the largest and most architecturally significant skateparks in the United States, representing a landmark achievement in creative land use and modern recreational design.
