The newly inaugurated skatepark in Gondomar, Portugal, has quickly become one of the largest and most dynamic skate facilities in the country. Opened on August 3, 2024, this park is part of a significant urban revitalization effort, transforming a previously abandoned area beneath the A43 viaduct into a multifunctional recreational space. The project was completed with a €1.5 million investment and spans over 16,500 square meters, encompassing not only the skatepark but also basketball, padel, and football fields, making it a comprehensive sports destination for the region.
Designed by Marcelo Lambiasi and built by Wasteland skateparks, the skatepark integrates smoothly into the surrounding landscape, utilizing the existing topography to enhance the skating experience. The design features a 1,300-square-meter area that includes both a "street" section and a medium-sized bowl, offering options for both technical tricks and smooth, flowing lines. Constructed with durable materials like granite, steel, and concrete, the skatepark also includes sustainable elements, such as stormwater management to reduce water impact.
