In the summer of 2024, the commune of Grand-Couronne, located in the Seine-Maritime department of Normandy, France, inaugurated a state-of-the-art pumptrack facility. This initiative aimed to enhance local recreational infrastructure and provide residents with a dedicated space for various wheeled sports, including BMX biking, skateboarding, rollerblading, and scootering.
The pumptrack was designed and constructed by BikeSolutions, a company renowned for its expertise in creating pumptracks and bike parks. The facility features multiple tracks catering to different skill levels: Green Track: Designed for beginners, this track offers gentle slopes and curves, providing an accessible introduction to pumptrack activities. Blue Track: An intermediate circuit that allows users to gain speed and practice jumps in a fun environment. Red/Black Track: A more advanced course incorporating significant elevation changes and technical features, including the "lonely turn," a unique element requiring riders to jump into and out of the turn.
The pumptrack is situated near the Jean Coiffier leisure center in the Essarts area, adjacent to a forest, offering a scenic backdrop for users. The development of the pumptrack was a significant investment for the commune, with the project costing over €737,000. This substantial financial commitment underscores the local government's dedication to enhancing recreational facilities and promoting active lifestyles among its residents. While specific details regarding external funding or grants are not provided, the allocation of such a budget reflects a strategic prioritization of community health and well-being.
