The New Plymouth Pump Track, located within the Taranaki Cycle Park in Bell Block, New Zealand, is a premier facility for cycling enthusiasts. Constructed by Velosolutions, the track spans 130 meters and features an asphalt surface, ensuring durability and smooth riding conditions.
The Taranaki Cycle Park offers a comprehensive range of cycling amenities, including a 1.75 km closed road circuit with two smaller 1 km loops, a 333-meter velodrome, a cyclo-cross course, and a learner's pad with a mini road circuit equipped with traffic lights and road signs for younger riders. These facilities are free to use and cater to cyclists of all ages and skill levels.
The pump track has significantly boosted visitor numbers to the park. According to Pamela Coe, Trust Administrator, "We’ve basically tripled the traffic through the gate," indicating the track's role in encouraging community engagement and promoting outdoor activities.
In addition to the Taranaki Cycle Park, New Plymouth offers other cycling facilities, such as the sealed pump track at Lake Mangamahoe. Opened in January 2020, this track was developed by the New Plymouth Mountain Bikers club with financial support from the New Plymouth District Council and the New Zealand Community Trust. It has become a popular spot for cyclists of all ages.
