Rúa Fernando Rey, 15007 A Coruña, Spain
The Plaza de José Toubes Skatepark, located in A Coruña’s Cuatro Caminos neighborhood, was constructed under the Avenida de Alfonso Molina viaduct as part of a broader public urban project aimed at enhancing recreational spaces. This skatepark and the adjacent multi-sport court span about 400 and 361 square meters, respectively, with additional pedestrian and landscaped areas created to integrate with the surrounding community infrastructure. The skatepark opened in July 2023, following four months of construction, with a total investment of approximately €450,000, co-funded by Eidus and local government resources to support sustainable urban development.
This initiative, led by the city council and its mayor, Inés Rey, was motivated by local youth demands for more sports facilities. It aims to cater to skaters of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced, with varied obstacles designed to help users develop their techniques. Additionally, the project emphasizes accessibility and safety, with improved sidewalks, a pedestrian crosswalk on Fernando Rey Street, and a planned seating and greenery area to foster social interaction.
The skatepark forms part of a larger redevelopment plan for the José Toubes Square area, which includes the Remanso building (a civic center) and various infrastructure improvements along Fernández-Latorre Street, where a bike lane and additional trees will be introduced. This project aligns with A Coruña's strategy to repurpose urban spaces for social engagement and youth-oriented activities, meeting modern urban needs while enhancing the city's recreational appeal.
