Trucks and Fins is a huge present to the whole skate community - not just for the skating people, but also for shops, builders and schools. Super easy to use and can't believe how complete it is.

In October 2024, the Atikamekw community of Wemotaci inaugurated a new skatepark, marking the culmination of a two-year collaborative effort aimed at providing local youth with a dedicated space for individual sports and self-expression. The project was spearheaded by Édith Lussier, an educational advisor at the Seskitin and Nikanik schools in Wemotaci. Her vision was to create an environment where young people could engage in activities like skateboarding and scootering, complementing the community's existing focus on team sports such as hockey and broomball.
The skatepark was constructed by Papillon Skateparks, a company known for building skateparks. The design and construction process involved significant community input, ensuring that the facility met the specific needs and preferences of Wemotaci's youth. This participatory approach not only fostered a sense of ownership among the residents but also ensured that the skatepark would be well-utilized and appreciated.
Funding for the skatepark presented challenges, as traditional municipal funding avenues were not fully accessible to the community. To overcome this, Lussier secured financial support from various sources: The Fondation d’initiatives autochtones (FIA) contributed 80% of the necessary funds. Additional funding was provided by the Unité régionale de loisirs et de sport de la Mauricie (URLS Mauricie), the Conseil des Atikamekw de Wemotaci, the Association Skateboard Montréal, and through the "Jordan's Principle" initiative.
