The Jugendfreizeitpark Wermelskirchen, inaugurated in May 2022, is a contemporary recreational facility designed for skateboarding, BMX biking, inline skating, and scooter riding enthusiasts. Situated along the B51 and adjacent to the scenic Balkantrasse cycling route, the park is easily accessible to both local residents and visitors from the broader region.
Spanning over 900 square meters, the skatepark is equipped with classic elements such as ledges, rails, ramps, and funboxes. A notable feature is the expansive bowl, particularly appealing to BMX riders, which is expected to attract active riders from the region.
Wermelskirchen boasts a rich history in roll sports, with roots tracing back nearly four decades. A vibrant community and supportive environment have cultivated a culture where BMX and skateboarding evolved beyond mere trends, embodying a unique lifestyle. The renowned contests held at the Kattwinkelsche Fabrik remain memorable to many, highlighting the town's longstanding commitment to these sports. However, since 2012, enthusiasts lacked a dedicated venue—a gap now filled by the Jugendfreizeitpark.
