Battery Park Skatepark, located at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa, opened in 2018 as part of a broader urban park development. Designed and built by California Skateparks, with local input from Marc Baker of CA Skateparks Africa, the skatepark is the first of its kind in Cape Town, designed to meet world-class standards. The park is a part of a 12,000-square-meter urban space that integrates Cape Town's central business district with the popular V&A Waterfront through pedestrian walkways and recreational areas.
The skatepark features a combination of elements for both skaters and scooter riders, including a bowl with a spine and pump hump, quarter pipes, layback banks, gaps, a small plaza with hubbas and rails, and a long ledge. These features are designed to cater to skaters of all levels. The park is built on top of a four-story parking structure, offering stunning views of Table Mountain and the surrounding harbor.
Funded as part of the V&A Waterfront's efforts to provide recreational spaces for both locals and tourists, Battery Park Skatepark is free to use and open to the public. Its development was part of a broader project to revitalize the area, combining green spaces, pedestrian routes, and historical elements like the preserved Amsterdam Battery.
