La Villita Park Skatepark in Chicago, Illinois, was built in 2014 as part of a broader effort to revitalize the local Little Village neighborhood. The skatepark spans 10,000 square feet and was designed and built by SpohnRanch, a renowned skatepark construction company. This skatepark features a variety of street-style elements such as hubba ledges, manual pads, stairs, rails, flat bars, and a mini ramp, making it ideal for skaters of all skill levels.
The funding for La Villita Park, including the skatepark, came as part of a large-scale redevelopment of a former industrial site. The entire park development cost around $19 million, with support from the Chicago Park District and the community, particularly through advocacy from groups like LVEJO (Little Village Environmental Justice Organization). This funding transformed what was once a contaminated brownfield into a vibrant recreational space for the community, with athletic fields, playgrounds, and the skatepark being central components of the park.
La Villita Park Skatepark plays a key role in providing recreational opportunities for the local youth and has become a central hub for skateboarding in the area. Since its opening, the park has been embraced by skaters and remains a popular spot in Chicago’s skate scene.
