Manzanita Skatepark, located in Anaheim, California, is a 12,000-square-foot skatepark that opened in December 2019, with its official dedication in February 2020. The park was designed and built by Spohn Ranch, a well-known skatepark design firm, and was funded through a combination of developer fees and grants. The project cost totaled $1.6 million, with contributions including $925,650 from city park funds, a $400,000 federal Land and Water Conservation Fund grant, and $264,350 from the state Housing-Related Parks Program.
The skatepark features a variety of elements designed for skaters of all levels. Key features include a 7-foot-deep bowl for advanced skaters, a 3-foot-deep beginner bowl, grind ledges, rails, and ramps. The park also includes a vibrant mural created by local artist Mike McMillian, inspired by input from neighborhood youth, depicting skaters against a California sunset backdrop. This project not only improved the skateboarding facilities but also enhanced the surrounding area with additional parking and landscaping improvements.
Manzanita Skatepark represents Anaheim's eighth skatepark and is part of a broader effort by the city to provide more accessible recreational spaces for its community, especially in underserved areas. Prior to its construction, the site was part of the larger 7.5-acre Manzanita Park, a facility serving the predominantly Hispanic Romneya neighborhood.
