Monitor Park Skatepark, located in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, opened in 2015. Designed and built by SpohnRanch Skateparks in collaboration with EPT Design and the Trust for Public Land, the skatepark is 6,000 square feet and offers a mix of street plaza elements and transition-style terrain. The skatepark's design features smart spacing and thoughtful flow patterns, making it ideal for skaters of all levels.
The park includes banks, quarter pipes, stairs, and handrails, arranged in a triangular layout with elevated platforms transitioning down to the flat sections. A distinctive feature is the integration of a pump bump in the center, which helps skaters maintain speed as they move across the park. Another notable element is the curved quarterpipe that leads into a mini-ramp/square bowl with an extension, offering opportunities for various tricks and maneuvers.
Funded by community efforts through the Trust for Public Land, the project was designed to provide a much-needed recreational facility for the youth of Watts. It opened with a celebration that included a demo by the Blind Skateboards team and a best trick contest, highlighting its role as a new hub for local skateboarders.
Monitor Park Skatepark is a valuable addition to the Watts area, giving the local community a safe, modern space for skating, surrounded by other amenities such as a children's play area.
