North Beardsley Skatepark, located in Bakersfield, California, officially opened in September 2018. The 8,000-square-foot outdoor concrete skatepark was designed and built by SpohnRanch, a well-known skatepark design firm that has worked on numerous projects across the country. This skatepark offers a mix of street and transition terrain, including a bowl, snake run, and a street plaza, making it appealing to skaters of all levels.
The park was funded and managed by the North of the River Recreation and Park District (NOR), which secured funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), a federal grant program. This project was part of a broader initiative to enhance community recreational facilities, with the skatepark being built on the site of a former swimming pool.
The skatepark features include a Mickey Mouse-shaped bowl, pump bumps, a stair set with hubbas and a handrail, and a tombstone ledge. The design incorporates both street and transition elements, allowing skaters to practice a variety of tricks. A signature feature of the park is its oil derrick-shaped entrance, a nod to the region's oil industry.
Since its opening, North Beardsley Skatepark has become one of the top skating destinations in Bakersfield, providing a well-balanced space for the local skateboarding community. The park's integration into a larger recreational area, which includes sports fields and picnic areas, further enhances its appeal as a versatile public space.
