Ride It Sculpture Park in Detroit, Michigan, was designed and developed by Power House Productions, a local non-profit, as part of their broader effort to revitalize the North Central Detroit neighborhood. The park is a unique blend of art and skateboarding, designed with both aesthetic and functional elements. The skatepark, which includes ramps, bowls, and other skate features, weaves through a series of vacant lots and integrates sculptural elements that can also be skated on.
The project began in 2012, with the first phase completed later that year. Evergreen Skateparks, a renowned builder, contributed to the construction, particularly during later phases. Funding for the project came from various sources, including a significant grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation, which awarded $30,000 to support its expansion. Additional funding was provided by community fundraising efforts and contributions from other organizations, such as Juxtapoz and Thrasher Magazine.
Phases two and three of the project have continued to expand the park, incorporating more elements and transforming the surrounding area, including future plans for a "Skate House" where skaters can repair boards and skate through a converted home. The park has become a focal point for local youth and the broader skateboarding community, fostering both physical activity and artistic expression.
