The Spike Skatepark in Spijkenisse, also known as the Groenewoud Skatepark, was officially reopened in 2021 after a significant renovation. The skatepark was originally constructed around 25 years ago and had become outdated, prompting the city to revamp the facility. The renovation was handled by SkateOn, a well-known Dutch company specializing in skatepark construction. Damiaan Winkelman, director of SkateOn, described this skatepark as one of the best they’ve ever built due to its challenging features and modern design elements.
Spike Skatepark includes a variety of structures such as an open bowl, quarterpipes, hubbas, funboxes, manual pads, and rails. It is designed to cater to different types of skaters, including inline skaters, BMX riders, skateboarders, and scooter users. One notable aspect of this park is the newly added graffiti park, where artists can legally express their creativity on designated walls.
The skatepark's renovation was a collaborative effort between local skaters and the Municipality of Nissewaard, and it now attracts not only local skaters but also visitors from other cities. The official reopening event featured professional skaters like Nassim Guammaz, Tim Zom, and others, who performed demonstrations to celebrate the park’s launch
