Named for the legendary Dogtown surf spot, the Cove was poured in 2005 and features a decent street section -- but smaller than nearby Stoner Plaza. That said, the main attraction here is the transition: a pool, two big bowls, and a double horseshoe area with a twin-coping-ed spine. The thing about the Cove that you'll either love or hate is that you need to register with the city to use it, and pads and helmet are required. In exchange for this, you get controlled access, no scooters or bikes (except bikes on bike night), and a friendly vibe where kids and adults get along with no alcohol or graffiti or kids sliding around on their butts. You'll see southern-California pros here like Pat Ngoho and 'Tuma' Britton, and you'll be skating in the vicinity of Dogtown itself, the birthplace of so much of what we now know as skate culture.
