Skatepark Westblaak in Rotterdam is a major hub for the city's vibrant skateboarding scene. This iconic skatepark, first built in 2000, underwent a major renovation in 2016 to modernize its facilities. The renovation was led by Finnish landscape designer Janne Saario, who collaborated with local skaters and urban planner Marcel Musch to create a flowing, concrete landscape that spans 200 meters in length and 20 meters wide, offering a mix of street and transition features. The park now covers an area of 1,200 m² and includes halfpipes, ramps, and a variety of other skateable elements, making it suitable for skateboarders, BMX riders, and inline skaters alike.
The redesign was commissioned by the Municipality of Rotterdam and involved replacing older stainless steel structures with a more durable concrete setup, ensuring the park could handle heavy use. The project was part of a broader city initiative to invest in public recreational spaces.
Skatepark Westblaak is located in the heart of Rotterdam's bustling Westblaak area, which adds to its urban charm. The surrounding area is known for its proximity to the Skatestore Rotterdam and other attractions like restaurants and cinemas, making it a lively spot for locals and visitors. Additionally, the park is a host to many skateboarding events and championships throughout the year, further cementing its reputation as one of the top skate spots in the Netherlands
