Wool Skatepark, located in Wool near Wareham, underwent significant redevelopment and was completed in 2020. The original skatepark, constructed in 2007 as part of a Wool Parish Council initiative, was a metal structure on a degraded tarmac surface. This setup quickly became inadequate for the growing number of users, often leading to overcrowding and safety concerns due to its limited space and noisy metal ramps.
Maverick Skateparks, a leading skatepark design and construction firm, was selected to build the new skatepark. Their work resulted in a modern concrete park that features a variety of obstacles, including a spine, hubbas, ledges, a mini ramp, jump boxes, and more. This versatile design accommodates all skill levels, from beginners to advanced riders, and supports a range of activities such as skateboarding, BMX, and scootering. Maverick's expertise in creating smooth, durable concrete parks helped resolve the issues posed by the original metal ramps, offering a much quieter and more spacious environment for riders.
The project cost £216,000, with funding coming from various sources, including Sport England, landfill charities like Suez and Viridor, and local fundraising efforts. The redevelopment is part of a broader initiative by Wool Parish Council to enhance the community's outdoor recreational spaces. The new skatepark not only serves as a hub for local skaters but also contributes to promoting healthy, active lifestyles among the area's youth.
Maverick's involvement ensured a high-quality design that catered to the needs of the community, making the Wool Skatepark a much-improved facility compared to its predecessor.
