The Marsh Skatepark in Weymouth opened in April 2022 and was built as part of a community-focused initiative led by Weymouth Town Council. The £358,000 project was designed and constructed by Maverick Skateparks, a company renowned for its skatepark builds across the UK. The skatepark includes a range of features catering to skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter enthusiasts, incorporating user feedback from local consultations to ensure the design met the community's needs. Alongside the skatepark, a separate parkour area was also developed, creating an inclusive space for free runners.
The project was funded through an off-site Section 106 contribution from the Curtis Field development. This type of funding is often used to support local infrastructure improvements when new housing developments are built. The park is located at The Marsh playing fields, and it was designed to provide a welcoming environment for people of all ages, encouraging outdoor activity and social interaction.
Before this new facility was constructed, there were limited skating facilities at the site. The project was a significant upgrade aimed at modernizing the recreational options for local youth. The opening of the skatepark was celebrated with a special event in July 2022, attended by local officials and members of the community.
