Leiria Becomes the Capital of Skateboarding for a Week

PUSH Festival Brings Awards, Workshops, Talks, Free Classes & a Permanent Skateboarding Exhibition

From February 17th to 22nd, the city of Leiria will host PUSH Festival, a groundbreaking event that celebrates skateboarding culture in Portugal. This unique initiative will recognize and award those who have contributed the most to the development and promotion of skateboarding in 2024, while also bringing the community together through education, art, and celebration.

With over 85 million skateboarders worldwide, the festival aims to shine a light on the passion, dedication, and culture that define the sport.

Awards & Celebrations: A Tribute to Skateboarding Culture

The festival's main highlights will take place on February 21st and 22nd at the Mercado de Sant’Ana and Teatro Miguel Franco. These two days will be dedicated to honoring the best in skateboarding videography, photography, associations, and skate shops—the true pillars of the community.

"This project was designed to unite the skateboarding culture in Portugal. There is a gap to be filled, and PUSH aims to bring recognition to those working behind the scenes," explains Haroun Cherif, founder of Trucks and Fins, the world’s largest skatepark directory and co-organizer of the event alongside No Comply, Leiria Skate Association.

"What’s missing is a festival that truly celebrates what it means to be a skateboarder, in a positive and inclusive way," adds João Sales, president of No Comply.

Workshops, Talks & Free Skate Classes

PUSH Festival is not just about awards—it’s about giving back to the community. Throughout the week:

  • Free skateboarding classes will be held at five schools in Leiria, introducing new generations to the sport.
  • A photography and videography workshop will allow enthusiasts to refine their skills.
  • Skate talks will bring together professionals and industry leaders to share their experiences and inspire the next generation.

A Permanent Exhibition: Skateboarding Through the Decades

One of the festival’s key attractions is a month-long exhibition at Mercado de Sant’Ana, showcasing the history of skateboarding in Leiria from 1989 to 2024. The exhibit will include:

  • Vintage photographs capturing decades of local skate culture.
  • A panoramic display of skateboarding gear, including boards, footwear, clothing, and accessories spanning from the 1950s to 2020.

"By awarding the best video parts, the best photographs, and the associations that have done the most to promote skateboarding, we’re showing the depth of the culture and those who work behind the scenes to support it," highlights Haroun Cherif.

Street Skate Jam, Live Music & DJs

PUSH Festival will also bring skateboarding to the streets with a JAM session at Largo Goa, Damão e Diu (Fonte Luminosa)—one of Leiria’s most iconic skate spots. Expect a lively atmosphere with DJs, live bands, and street entertainment, creating an unforgettable celebration for skaters and spectators alike.

Let’s PUSH Together!

Skateboarding is more than a sport—it’s a lifestyle, a community, and a global movement practiced by millions. PUSH Festival aims to celebrate this culture, inspire new generations, and bring recognition to those who keep it alive.

Let’s push forward together and make history in Leiria, the capital of skateboarding for one week! 🚀🏆🎉
