Discovering Santa Cruz: Skateparks, Beach Spots & Good Vibes
This trip was a little different from the usual skatepark mission. A while back, I posted on Instagram asking for help with some serious website issues. Out of nowhere, Jonathan — a programmer from Belgium — reached out. He’d seen the project and wanted to help fix the mess left by a company I had hired over the past couple of years. Let’s just say that experience cost me a fortune and at least a year of stress.
Fast forward a few months and Jonathan actually flew over to Portugal so we could finally meet face to face. I decided to organize a small tour to show him what Trucks and Fins is really about — the skateparks, the people, the vibe, the road trips.
The usual suspect Buga joined us, and so did Niel, a skater Buga had met at the Nazaré skatepark. We still had some beds left at our hostel, Pousadas de Juventude, so we invited him to join the crew. Rodrigo Pereira also came along, and before we knew it, the van was loaded and we were on our way to Santa Cruz.
We kicked things off at the Santa Cruz skatepark, aka Silveira skatepark — not your typical setup, but that’s exactly what made it fun. A different kind of flow, but fun enough to keep things interesting. After a session, we wrapped up the day at a Praia Santa Helena spot near the beach. If you’re into photogenic skate locations, this one’s a gem — smooth ground, ocean breeze, and golden light dropping over the Atlantic.
Moments like these remind us what Trucks and Fins is all about — skate, travel, good vibes, and connecting people who believe in building something that matters.
